The Fun(d)raising Committee

The Fun(d)raising Committee organizes events that are both fundraisers and FUN for the congregation. The committee is always looking for fresh and creative ideas that serve these dual purposes. Some fundraisers are co-sponsored with other Emerson groups. While most events benefit the Emerson general fund, some fundraisers are planned to raise funds for local and international charities. Following is a list of recent fundraisers.

EPICUREAN EVENTS
Epicurean Events were first offered in 2004 as a component of that year’s auction catalog. They became a stand-alone event in 2005. Since that time, Emerson members and friends have opened up their homes and their cupboards with the goals of building relationships and raising money for the Emerson general fund.

ARTS & CRAFTS SHOW
Local artists display their pottery, oil paintings, portraiture, photography, quilts, jewelry and more! 25% of all sales go directly to charity. As a result of the 2009 arts and crafts show, Emerson was able to donate over $750 to Marietta’s Center for Family Resources, which for 50 years has provided temporary financial assistance and housing to stabilize low-income and homeless families in crisis. The 2010 Arts and Crafts Show is being planned now so please email a member of the Fundraising Committee if you would like to help.

CONCERT SERIES
Starting in 2008, musicians were invited to perform as a part of a 4-concert series. In 2008, the performing groups included the Atlanta Balalaika Society Orchestra, Atlanta Flute Choir, Emerson Drummers and the Emerson Choir. In 2009, the performances included the Atlanta Gay Men’s Chorus, Trey Wright Jazz Trio, the Atlanta Balalaika Society Orchestra and the Emerson Guitar Group. The 2010 Concert Series includes performances by bass-baritone Oral Moses, the Atlanta Gay Men’s Chorus’ ensemble Panache and others.

VAGINA MONOLOGUES
Proceeds donated to domestic violence shelter and international charity against violence against women

GONG SHOW
Every few years the congregation’s most and least talented performers give us a show!

PANCAKE BREAKFAST
