Menu for the FutureShare the Basket on February 12 for the MEGA Family Project

Our monthly Share the Basket offering will be held on February 12. This is when 50% of all non-pledge contributions collected during the service goes to a non-profit group that reflects our UU values.

In February we will offer financial support to the MEGA Family Project, who work to build and strengthen Georgia’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Families. They are a nonpartisan, statewide organization dedicated to providing support, education, and advocacy work on behalf of LGBT families.   Through education, outreach, and public demonstrations, the organization promotes strengthening ALL families by fighting for LGBT families to gain full equality under the law.

  • The MEGA Family Project furthers family equality in Georgia by:
    • educational programs
    • outreach efforts aimed at fair-minded Georgians
    • media campaigns
    • utilizing our strong membership base to reach our goals gathering endorsements from individuals and organizations
    • working with other organizations in collaborative efforts to support family and equality issues
    • training others to educate the public on why family equality matters

MEGA Family ProjectThey are a very small organization trying to serve the needs of over 4,000 people in Georgia. That is a very tall order for an organization staffed with only one person. MEGA doesn't receive big grant money to help them operate. They rely exclusively on individual donors and business partners. Like many other organizations, they have seen a substantial drop off in donations since the economy has worsened. As a result, they need our support more than ever so they can continue operating the MEGA Family Project, and working to meet the needs of more of LGBT families.
